That’s a really ugly horse…oh, its a moose.
It doesn’t look like you got close enough to join the Royal Order of the Moose Riders. But that will be a whole separate post I suppose. Jean and TO want to know how big the moose was and how close you got. Doesn’t look like the moose was as friendly as the prairie dog.
I remember the Columbia Ice fields and Athabasca Glacier. My toes got so cold riding past them that I put my boots on my cylinder heads to warm them up. Sounds like maybe the glacier is farther away from the road by now. too bad. Sounds like you guys are having a more luxurious ride in the RV! Good thing with Fall coming. TO says see ya later!
School is coming up for us on the 14th. We’ll miss Kane and Kat!
see you guys in 5th grade. What a “summer vacation” essay Kane will have!
There have been 3 separate moose sightings all on the road (in the RV). The guy who we got on camera was by him/herself and crossed directly in front of us from right to left. I had to really slow down. This picture got him as he turned north after he crossed the road. I’d say this one was medium/modest. The first one I saw was on the left side of the road and ran up ahead of us and into the forest (really fast). He was probably 30% larger than this one. I’d say maybe this one was 900 lbs, and the other 1200? The other (group) we saw was a mother and 3 calves that crossed from left to right. That mother was kind of in between these other two in size. The babies of course were much smaller. I’m hopeful that I have a pic of them somewhere, but I could not find it last night. I’ve got the intervalometer taking them every 30 seconds, so there are lots of pictures! I’m really surprised by the speed/agility of the moose, seems like in movies they are sort of sedentary… not the case on the road. The closest we’ve been is probably 15 feet.
Love the photo labeled “Just thought it was cool.” Makes me want to dump some potatoes on my table like Close Encounters (even if its not Devils Tower, there is something almost extra-terrestrial about it)
